The National Kidney Foundation Golf Classic is the nation’s premier amateur golf event for charity. Each year thousands of golfers from across the country participate - for the exciting competition, valuable gifts, and the chance to win great prizes - all to benefit a worthy cause.

Team Scramble: A Format for Excitement

Each local National Kidney Foundation Golf Classic tournament is conducted using a four-person team scramble format, following USGA Handicap Index requirements. Each team member tees off, and the best drive is selected. All four players then play from that spot. This process continues until the hole is completed. Each team must use at least three drives from each player during the course of the round. The team with the lowest gross score wins.

The team scramble format provides everyone -- men and women, scratch golfers, and high handicappers -- an opportunity to win valuable prizes and possibly that invitation to Pebble Beach. Golfers of all skill levels are encouraged to compete, enjoy a great day of golf and support the National Kidney Foundation.

How to Form a Team

Any amateur golfer, male or female, is eligible to compete in the National Kidney Foundation Golf Classic.

  • Every team competing in the National Kidney Foundation Golf Classic must consist of four amateur golfers whose total USGA Handicap Index is 42.0 or more.
  • Only one golfer on each team may have a USGA Handicap Index of 8.0 or less.
  • Golfer’s handicaps are effective as of the latter of:
    • (i) the day of registration for the tournament or
    • (ii) the date 60 days prior to the event.
  • Any golfer wishing to participate who does not have a USGA Handicap Index will have to provide score cards attested to by a PGA Professional from which a “National Kidney Foundation Golf Classic Handicap” will be calculated in accordance with USGA Rules.
  • Each golfer who has a USGA Handicap Index will be required to present a current copy of his or her handicap card to the tournament committee at the time of registration.
  • All golfers will be required to present a photo ID on the day of the event.
  • Any team that contains a member who does not comply with each of these requirements will not be eligible to win prizes or qualify to be invited to the National Championship.
  • The National Kidney Foundation has the right to deny the entry of any players or teams.

Each winning team from the local National Kidney Foundation Golf Classic tournaments is invited to compete for the National Championship held at The Pebble Beach Resorts in January (registration fee required). The National Championship is a four-day tournament conducted over the famed Pebble Beach Golf Links, The Links at Spanish Bay, Poppy Hills and Del Monte. If the U.S. Open or the U.S. Amateur are not in your future, this is your only chance to compete for a National Championship at Pebble Beach!

Golf Classic Golfers Are Appreciated!

Your entry fee, a portion of which is tax deductible, helps support the National Kidney Foundation, the leading voluntary health organization dedicated to the detection, prevention, and treatment of kidney and urinary tract diseases. The NKF brings hope and help to the 20 million Americans who suffer from chronic kidney disease through patient and community services, advocacy, public and professional education, research, and organ donation programs.
